Special Alert: Changes to the Contemporary Collection
Visit before April so you don’t miss any of your favorite works from the museum’s collection of 20th- and 21st-century art! The museum will temporarily close all of its contemporary art galleries from April to early June 2013 to make exciting changes that will complement the Carnegie International opening in fall 2013. Contact the Group Visits Office at 412.622.3288 to find out what topics will be affected.
Logistics
How long is a school visit? What does it cost?
There are three variations of a tour: Gallery Tours, Gallery-Studio Workshops, and School-Museum Projects. All variations use the museum’s collection and special exhibitions to engage students with relevant content while building learning skills such as observation, interpretation, and inference-making. Gallery-Studio Workshops and School-Museum Projects include art-making.
Gallery Tour: Students participate in inquiry-based dialogues about thematic groups of artworks in the galleries.
- $9/student for 60-minute tour
- $10/student for 90-minute tour
- +$1/student for extended 30-minute independent viewing activity
Do you want to include art-making during your museum visit?
Gallery-Studio Workshop: Students discover the creative process by discussing works of art in the galleries and through related art-making activities in the studio.
- $12/student for two hours
School-Museum Project: Begin with a museum educator in your classroom for a pre-visit. Students explore a topic in depth over two consecutive days with combinations of gallery discussions and studio art-making.
- $525/class, 35 students maximum, two days
