Abstraction, one of the defining innovations in 20th-century art, is explored in more than 80 prints, drawings, watercolors, collages, and photographs on view in the Works on Paper Gallery. Featuring important examples from the museum’s collection and private collections, this exhibition includes many artworks on view for the first time. Avant-garde works by European, American, and Japanese artists highlight the emergence of this international trend in the first half of the 20th century.
