Design Competition: New Cottages at Fallingwater
See how six distinguished architectural practices from across the United States and Canada respond to an extraordinary challenge: to design architecturally innovative and environmentally sustainable cottages for Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater (1935–1939). The exhibition features models and drawings from Marlon Blackwell Architect, Wendell Burnette Architects, MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects, Olson Kundig Architects, Patkau Architects, and Saucier + Perrotte Architectes. Informed by the unique history, design, and setting of Fallingwater, these architects offer creative approaches to an American icon.
The exhibition is organized by Raymund Ryan, curator of architecture at the Heinz Architectural Center.
The design competition is organized by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, which preserves and maintains Fallingwater, through a grant from The Fine Foundation. The programs of the Heinz Architectural Center are made possible by the generosity of the Drue Heinz Trust. General operating support for Carnegie Museum of Art is provided by The Heinz Endowments and Allegheny Regional Asset District. Carnegie Museum of Art receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
