Carnegie Museum of Art and the Women’s Committee Present the Third Annual Art in Bloom, April 14–16, 2011
Pittsburgh, PA…Spring truly blossoms with the return of Art in Bloom—a three-day celebration featuring favorite works of art, fresh flowers, and an array of festivities—presented by the Women’s Committee of Carnegie Museum of Art.
Exotic and imaginative floral displays inspired by great works of art will be on view in Carnegie Museum of Art’s galleries. Regional garden clubs, local organizations, and florists will create stunning floral displays in a spectrum of styles, filling the galleries with the season’s most vibrant colors and loveliest fragrances. Don’t miss the opportunity to see the art collection complemented in an exciting way.
The three-day event includes a gala preview party; a lecture and luncheon featuring one of America’s most popular garden writers, Suzy Bales; and floral-themed activities for children and families. Dates and descriptions of activities are as follows:
Thursday, April 14
Opening Night: Party in the Park
7–10 p.m.
Enjoy cocktails and light fare amidst a lush parkscape in the Museum of Art Lobby and Hall of Sculpture, and then stroll through the galleries to view stunning floral arrangements and the works of art that inspired them. After mingling, music, and entertainment, cap off the evening with cocktails, coffee, and confections.

Suzy Bales Lecture and Luncheon
Doors open 10 a.m.; 10:30–11 a.m. book sales and signing; lecture begins 11 a.m.; luncheon follows.
Suzy Bales has turned her lifelong passion for cooking and gardening into a career. Bales not only gardens with the greenest of thumbs, but she imparts her gardening wisdom with a friendly, storytelling voice that is both charming and informative. Millions have delighted in her gardening columns for Family Circle, Horticulture, The New York Times, and other publications, and her garden spots on Good Morning America. She travels and lectures constantly and has been the featured speaker at flower shows across the country. Bales is the author of 13 books, including Gifts from Your Garden, A Garden of Fragrance, Garden Parties, The Down-To-Earth Gardner, The Garden in Winter, the children’s book Ready, Set, Grow, and a set of books for the Burpee American Gardening Series. Bales won the Garden Writer of the Year award from the American Horticultural Society and has twice been awarded the Quill and Trowel Award by The Garden Writers of America. Furthermore, articles about Bales and her personal garden have been featured in Ladies Home Journal, House Beautiful, Better Homes and Gardens, Horticulture, Beautiful Gardens, and Easy Gardening.
Copies of Suzy Bales’s book will be available for purchase in the CMA store and at the lecture. A luncheon will be served in the Music Hall Foyer following the lecture. About the Women’s Committee
Founded in 1957, the Women’s Committee of Carnegie Museum of Art is dedicated to furthering the interests of the Museum of Art and promoting its cultural and educational value in the community. Since its inception, the Women’s Committee has funded the purchase of over 280 works of art for the museum, at a cost of over $4 million. In addition, the Women’s Committee raises funds for the museum and its programs, including contributing $1 million to the Museum of Art Capital Campaign Fund for the renovation of the Scaife Galleries, as well as $500,000 to the recent renovation of the Ailsa Mellon Bruce Galleries for decorative arts.
